Hi there! This is my ninth year at Eanes Elementary and fourth year in my current position as a Special Education Teacher for modified curriculum. I am excited about the opportunity to completely immerse in teaching Language Arts in a modified setting for Grades 2, 4 and 5. I have a Masters in Special Education with a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from Texas A& M University. Whoop! Whoop! For the past 21 years, I have worked in a variety of service-delivery models for children with special educational needs; ages 0-3, 3-5, K-5. I currently hold teaching certificates in Special Education, EC-6 Generalist, English as a Second Language and Gifted & Talented.
I was born in Kerala, India. I grew up in many parts of Southern India. I moved to Denver, CO in 2001 where my husband and the rest of his family lived. In 2008, along with my husband’s siblings’ and their families, we decided to move to a warmer place. Round Rock is our home now where I live with my husband and 12 year old son who is a seventh grader at HCMS. My parents and my brother’s family live in India. I just got back from a wonderful trip this summer with my family in India.
My childhood experiences with my father significantly influenced my love for learning and teaching. The stories he retold and narratives of life experiences inspire my storytelling and making children’s literature come alive for young children. I strive to be a teacher who fosters curiosity, reasoning and interests about how things live, work and grow around us. My love for connecting with people, food and cultures comes from those special moments with my mother and grandmother. I speak, read and write: English, Malayalam and Hindi Languages; and speak Tamil and Telugu languages. Although I learned French in college, the lack of opportunities to practice it did not help me maintain the language but it helped me comprehend and engage in basic conversational Spanish.
Things I enjoy with my family…
Tasting world cuisine and recreating food in our kitchen; trying out new places to eat with my husband (Love extra hot food!!); collecting blue and white ceramics from around the world; traveling and visiting geographical formations and historic places, collecting handicrafts, jewelry, pottery and artifacts from around the world; watching movies and documentaries, and off course cooking and decorating shows.
Now you know a little about me! I am eager to meet you and your child and get to know you as we learn, share and grow together!
